It all started when…

Covid left us feeling isolated, a little cheated, down, and lost. My husband and I talked alot about downsizing. We were able to accomplish that in 2021 with the sale of our girls’ childhood home and a vacation condo. This led to the elimination of a lot of “stuff” which was very liberating. We purchased a small home to transition, and then the RV discussions began. In December 2021, we purchased a used Thor Magnitude Class C. I say “used” very loosely as the RV only had 900 miles on it when we purchased it. We had a short trip to New River Gorge National Park in WV, followed by a trip to NC to help move our youngest. That trip landed the RV in repairs for close to 5 months. Seasoned RVers have told me if anything is going to go wrong, it’s going to happen when you first purchase an RV. Our next short trip took us to Shenandoah National Park in VA, in July 2022, which was wonderful. I highly recommend it! Next, a weekend getaway with friends who also had just purchased a camper, took us all to Deep Creek, MD. We had a blast! Next came the big trip out West on October 15, 2022. I decided I would begin to document the journey with writings, thoughts, and pictures. I hope to inspire others to “be an outsider”. It’s not always the right time to take a trip of this length, but certainly the weekends, long weekends, and weeklong trips are just as rewarding. I may have some ideas to share to new RVers since we certainly are. I predict some humor and troubleshooting along the way. I wish there is inspiration to take a trip of your own to somewhere around this country. We have so much to offer, and we take it for granted. There are 59 national parks in this country, and we can thank President Woodrow Wilson for creating the National Park Service in 1916. Maybe not every president has agreed with the money spent by the Department of the Interior, but I certainly agree they are of immense importance to our society. So, take a hike, get out there, enjoy nature, visit a state or national park, and be inspired.
